Miacademy is now an eligible marketplace purchase for the Children’s Scholarship Fund Education Freedom Accounts in NH! Eligible families in New Hampshire can access Miacademy’s accredited online homeschool curriculum with funding provided by the Education Freedom Accounts (EFA) program.
What is the Education Freedom Accounts program in New Hampshire?
The Education Freedom Accounts (EFAs) provide eligible students with a grant of approximately $3,700 to spend on their education. To be eligible for the grant, the student’s annual household income must be at or below 350% of the federal poverty level. The program is open to all students aged 5-20 entering grades K-12.
Eligible expenses include items such as:
- Tuition at the school of your choice
- Tutoring
- Online learning programs
- Educational supplies
- Other educational expenses

The Children’s Scholarship Fund is a 501(c)(3) charity scholarship organization, and it has been authorized by the State of New Hampshire to administer these accounts.
EFAs have created wonderful opportunities for students who may have had little choice in their education before. In addition, receiving the EFA grant does not disqualify students from receiving other types of aid, so it’s best to shop around and apply for anything else your family is qualified for, too.
Who Qualifies for the Education Freedom Accounts?
To qualify for the program, students and their families must meet all three requirements:
1. You and your student must be New Hampshire residents.
2. Your student must be eligible to enroll in a New Hampshire public school. This means your student is…
- Between the ages of 5 and 20 and has not graduated high school
- Entering Kindergarten or first grade for the first time
- Entering second-12th grades
If your child is entering kindergarten, they must be at least 5 years old by September 30th.
3. Your household income must not exceed 350% of the federal poverty guidelines as updated annually in the Federal Register by the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
To receive additional funding, you may apply for differentiated aid. Differentiated aid provides additional EFA funding, ranging from an estimated additional $600 to $1,800 for each individual factor.
The factors that qualify an eligible student for “differentiated aid” are…
- Eligibility to receive Free or Reduced Lunch
- Whether the eligible student has been identified as an English Language Learner
- Whether an eligible student has a qualifying disability
Students who continue to attend a charter school or public school full-time after being accepted into the EFA program will lose eligibility.
How Do I Get Miacademy with the Education Freedom Account?
Applications for Education Freedom Accounts (EFAs) for2024-25 will become available in March 2024. Applications are accepted throughout the school year. However, if you complete your application after July 15, your grant will be reduced and adjusted based on the time of submission.
To receive a 100% EFA grant for the 2024-2025 school year, the application and supporting materials must be verified by Monday, July 15, 2024.
The deadline for submitting a student’s annual record of educational attainment to the scholarship organization is July 15. We strongly suggest that you upload your annual record of educational attainment documents during the annual EFA renewal application process.
Once an EFA account is created, the account must be renewed annually, and any unused funds roll over until the parent or guardian withdraws the student from the program or until the student graduates from high school, unless the EFA is closed due to intentional misuse of funding.
To retain their EFA, parents must maintain New Hampshire residency and reapply annually. Parents will also need to submit the eligible student’s annual record of academic achievement documents during the requalification process to maintain their EFA.
Once approved for the program, Miacademy can be purchased using your funds directly through the online education marketplace, Classwallet. Before a purchase goes through, it must be approved by a staff member based on the pre-approved cost categories listed on page 20 of the Parent Handbook.
