Life Science Unit 4: DNA and Genetics
This is the fourth unit of the Life Science course for middle school students. It focuses on DNA and Genetics and includes 4 lessons:
This unit includes 4 lessons:
- Structure of DNA
- Protein Synthesis
- Gene Expression
- Meiosis
In these lessons, students will discover the complex processes that shape the features of every living thing.
Unit Overview: DNA and Genetics
This unit is designed to help students understand how DNA acts as a blueprint for the structure of living things.
Students will learn about the structure of DNA and how it shapes all living things.
Lesson 1: Structure of DNA
In this lesson, students will learn how DNA is structured and who was responsible for discovering its structure. Additionally, they will learn about the function of DNA and its importance.
Lesson 2: Protein Synthesis
In this lesson, students will learn about the process of protein synthesis. They will learn the steps involved and why this process is important to cells and living things.
Lesson 3: Gene Expression
In this lesson, students will learn how genes are expressed in living things. They will learn the difference between genotypes and phenotypes, as well as how to predict the genetic outcomes of offspring.
Lesson 4: Meiosis
In this lesson, students will learn about the process of meiosis and its steps. Additionally, they will learn why meiosis is important and how it contributes to genetic diversity.
Unit 5: Diversity of Life
The next unit in Life Science, Diversity of Life, is designed to broaden student understanding of the many different types of organisms that we share our world with.
