Real Teachers With Real Experience
Our curriculum developers are nothing short of amazing at what they do! To ensure our teachers are the best, our hiring process includes a teaching aptitude exam and a rigorous skills test, along with multiple rounds of interviews. Many of our curriculum developers hold at least one master’s degree and are subject-matter experts, in addition to having years of real classroom experience.
To ensure we create top-notch content, we invest in the skills and careers of our curriculum developers. We provide our team with regular professional development workshops on best instructional practices and cutting-edge educational research. Each of our curriculum developers are paired with an instructional design coach, to receive regular feedback and coaching on their lesson design skills.
At Miacademy, everything we do is guided by what’s best for our students. When creating our lessons, we center the needs of our students and choose all topics, materials, and presentations carefully. Each course’s content is thoroughly researched to be age-appropriate, relevant, and effective. Along with incremental skill building, this provides a strong foundation of knowledge for the next steps in their learning journey.
All of our lessons undergo peer reviews by multiple subject-matter experts and our experienced instructional design managers. In addition, we continually update our existing lessons to ensure the content remains accurate, relevant, and engaging for you and your family.
Quality of Lessons/ Games
With thousands of lessons, games, and activities, there’s always something new to learn at Miacademy! Our four flagship sites work together to serve all kinds of learners’ interests, including:

We offer many different content formats, such as PDF worksheets, videos, quizzes, and interactive games. Some PDFs even include additional activities, such as guided notes, additional practice, and extension activities. Our content covers all core subject areas and even includes electives, such as Introduction to Programming, Life Skills, Music & Art, and Foreign Language courses.
Our team works hard to release new content every month, so there will always be something new for your student to discover on our site!
Moderated Social Features
Miacademy isn’t just a curriculum; it’s a community! With parent permission, students have the opportunity to chat, make friends, and create groups in a moderated environment.
This optional feature is 100% secure and is actively monitored by our site managers. It provides a safe space for children to learn how to interact online safely, express their creativity, and make friends with other children their age.
Some of our community features include:
- Chatting with other members by posting and commenting on each other’s statuses
- Writing articles and stories for the weekly newspaper
- Purchasing and taking care of pets on our K-8 sites
- Creating, buying, and selling clothing, furniture, and other items in a virtual store
- Challenging other members to the Dragon Race or other learning games in the Arcade
- Creating teams to compete for the most Gold (site currency) each week
Our moderation team screens every word, video, and design that students make, and it must be approved before other users can see it. You can view our moderation guidelines here. This ensures our social environment is as safe as possible.
Your child’s safety is our top priority, which is why all Miacademy sites are compliant with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). This means our site managers have taken extra precaution to make sure that your child’s information will never be monitored or tracked for any reason.
If you don’t want your child to have access to these features, no worries! You can disable some or all of them on your Parent Page and continue to use our sites for educational purposes only.
Accessibility
At Miacademy, we believe that a great education should be available to all students, regardless of ability, location, or learning style. Our online learning platform allows students to learn in whichever way works best for them by providing plenty of flexibility and variety in our content.
We purposely incorporate user-centered design principles to create content that is as inclusive as possible. Additionally, all of our curriculum developers prioritize and use the principles of the Universal Design for Learning framework. That means our lessons are designed with accessibility in mind and include features such as:
- A variety of formats and activities for visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners
- A self-paced, flexible curriculum that meets students at their level
- Customizable learning paths that allow for additional practice and skill mastery
- Diverse perspectives, cultures, and abilities represented in curricula content
- Built-in text-to-speech capability
- Accurate, carefully transcribed closed captions
In addition to the features listed above, we also have an in-house accessibility and inclusion consultant, Gabriella Volpe, B. Ed. Gabriella is a teacher and a disability advocate. As a homeschooling parent to a disabled child herself, she also deeply understands that all families have different needs. Gabriella works closely with our curriculum developers, web designers, production team, and more to ensure our homeschool experience is accessible and inclusive to every student.
