U.S. Geography Unit 2: The Northeast

This is the second unit in Miacademy’s online US Geography course for upper elementary grades. It focuses on the Northeast region of the country, which is home to diverse landscapes, rich historical sites, and important cultural and economic centers.

The unit includes four lessons:

  1. Operation Exploration: The Northeast Part 1
  2. Operation Exploration: The Northeast Part 2
  3. Operation Exploration: The Northeast Part 3
  4. The Statue of Liberty

These lessons will provide students with a deeper understanding of this fascinating and storied region of our country.

Unit Overview: The Northeast

This unit will allow students to apply the map skills they developed in the previous unit to a detailed study of this region of the country. Additionally, it will help them begin to see the interconnectedness of the various regions that compose the United States.

Throughout this unit, students will continue to develop their map skills and their understanding of the world around them. By the end of the unit, students should have a deep understanding of the geography of the Northeast region of the United States.

Unit 3: The South

The next unit in this course, The South, builds on the skills and knowledge students have gained in during these lessons. It continues the exploration of the United States’ geography, this time focusing on the South region. Students will learn about the region’s physical geography, major cities and landmarks, historical and cultural significance, economic and demographic characteristics, and how they have changed over time.

Just as in Unit 2, students will use their map skills and knowledge of geography to better understand the region and its place in the United States. They will also continue to develop their understanding of the relationship between geography and history, culture, and economy.
